Monchy le Preux constituait une position strat'egique importante pr`es d'Arras lors de la guerre 14-18. Des combats sanglants s'y d'eroul`erent. C'est `a partir du village que les Allemands bombard`erent Arras et d'etruisirent le beffroi. Cependant c'est sur le territoire de Monchy que l'on peut voir le long de la RD939 une borne marquant la limite de l'avanc'ee de l'arm'ee allemande pendant la Premi`ere Guerre mondiale. Monchy was an important strategic position near to Arras during the 1914-18 war and bloody fighting ensued around the village. It was from here that the Germans bombarded Arras and destroyed the belltower.
