Îïèñàíèå: From the information at site: - “Designed by John Everiss, the ‘D-Day 75 Garden’ was commissiond by veterans’ charity D-Day Revisited ahead of the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. Their aim was to pay tribute to surviving D-Day veterans and respectfully remember those who lost their lives in the battle to liberate Normandy, which commenced on 6th June 1944. At the heart of the design is 97-year-old D-Day veteran Bill Pendell MM looking back at himself as a 22-year-old landing on these beaches 75 years ago. Visitors are invited to reflect on the elderly veterans’ experience of revisiting the communities they liberated and recalling their intense memories of D-Day and the days which followed. The ‘D-Day 75 Garden was exhibited at the 2019 RHS Chelsea Flower Show, before being officially gifted to the Mayor of Arromanches-les-Bains by Normandy veterans and the Hon. Henry Montgomery & Lady Arabella Stuart-Smith (grandchildren of Field Marshall Montgomery, 1st Viscount of Alamein) on the 6th June 2019. Overlooking Gold Beach and the Mulberry Harbour, the Garden will remain as a lasting legacy to help ensure the story of D-Day is never forgotten. D-Day Revisited was founded in 2008 by John Phipps & his daughter Victoria to assist Normandy veterans who wished to return to France and pay their respects to the friends they left behind.
