Îïèñàíèå: Troopship ‘USS Susan B. Anthony’ was originally an ocean liner built in 1930 for the Grace Steamship Company as the ‘SS Santa Clara’. She was transferred to the War Shipping Administration as a troop ship in February 1942, becoming the USS Susan B. Anthony. She took part in the invasions of North Africa in 1942 and Sicily in 1943 before joining the Atlantic convoys. Supporting the Normandy invasion, she was travelling through a previously swept channel on her way to Utah beach when she hit a mine. She sunk some two hours later, but by then all 2,689 on board had been rescued. At the time this was a world record as the largest number of people rescued without loss of life.
