Îïèñàíèå: On 1st April 1915, famed French aviator Roland Garros achieved the first ever shooting down of an aircraft by firing a machine gun through a tractor propellor. He and his mechanic, Jules Hue, had fitted deflectors on the rear of the propellor blades on his Morane-Saulnier Type G. Two more victories were achieved on 15th and 18th April, before Garros had to force-land behind German lines due a clogged fuel line. The Germans investigated the device but dismissed it in favour of an interrupter gear which they then fitted on their Fokker E.I. Deflector plates were, however, later fitted to Morane-Saulnier Type N fighters which served with French and British squadrons. This replica propellor demonstrates the deflectors and is on display in the Great War Hall at the Mus'ee de l'air et de l'espace. Le Bourget Airport, Paris, France. 12th July 2022
