Îïèñàíèå: Unveiled on 24th July 1927, the Menin Gate Memorial is dedicated to 54,896 British and Commonwealth soldiers who were killed in the Ypres Salient during the First World War but whose graves are unknown. Eight recipients of the Victoria Cross are among those commemorated here. The location was chosen as most allied soldiers had marched through this gate on their way to the Ypres salient battlefields.
