Îïèñàíèå: British centrifugal compressor turbojet which first ran in 1944. Absurdly, the Nene is most well-known for its use in the Soviet MiG-15 fighter, although that was actually a reverse-engineered adaptation, the Klimov VK-1. The Nene was license-built in America by Pratt & Whitney as the J42 and as such it powered the Grumman Panther, a type which would have met the MiG-15 in combat over Korea! The only major British uses of the Nene were in the Supermarine Attacker and Hawker Sea Hawk naval fighters, whilst Canadair used the Nene to power their license-built T-33s, known as the CL-30 Silver Star. Some Silver Stars later saw Portuguese Air Force service as T-33ANs, hence the engine’s inclusion in the museum here. Museu do Ar, Alverca do Ribatejo, Portugal 19th September 2022
