Описание: German WW2 era self-propelled gun Official designation: - Panzerfeldhaubitze 18M auf Gesch"utzwagen III/IV (Sf) Hummel (Sd.Kfz.165) Although Hitler ordered the name ‘Hummel’ (German for Bumblebee) to be dropped as inappropriate for a fighting vehicle, it seems to have remained in universal use and is certainly how the type is generally referred to today. It combined the 15cm sFH 18/1 L/30 howitzer with the chassis of the Panzer IV medium tank. The engine was moved to a central position to make way for an open-top fighting compartment at the rear, surrounded by light armour. Some 714 were built, of which only six survive. According to the museum, this example was put out of action by tanks of the 5th US Armored Division on 10 August 1944, near the town of Nouans to the north of Le Mans. It was part of a German defensive position which was disbanded by artillery fire from the 2nd French Armoured Division. It seen on display in the ‘Germany 1934-1945’ hall.
